Until joining the JSF crew, Karin has been running Sunset Beach Farm in NY with her partner Jon. She is the face at the farmer’s market, and has been refurbishing our farm stand.
Karin Bellemare is from Conneticut, and got her agricultural start at Starlight Gardens where she grew tomatoes, greens and microgreens. She studied sustainable business at Green Mountain College, where she was captain of the soccer team. Her competitive spirit comes out during transplanting, and her straight lines keep everybody in order. From there, she started Sunset Beach Farm in Sag Harbor, NY with her partner, Jon. For three years, they raised vegetables, laying hens, and meat birds for a CSA and Farmer’s Market.
Karin’s big project this Spring has been revamping the farm stand. She has been organizing, cleaning, painting, and installing; everyone who has been by the farm stand lately has been extremely impressed! She’s been the face of the Burlington Farmer’s market. Karin has been excited to work with JSF’s many animals, and seeing how they fit into a diversified farm system. She is also happy that Jon is the one spending most of his time caring for the animals, because at the end of the day she doesn’t smell quite as bad.
Her favorite tasty farm treats are carrots and microgreens, and she makes a mean Red Curry, so look out for that recipe later this summer. On her days off, she is looking for property that she and Jon will farm for themselves, and hangs out with her mini lion dog, Ellie.
